Enlow Next In Line to Head Up Unisea

Unalaska’s largest seafood processor has selected a future president and CEO. Tom Enlow will take over Terry Shaff’s job at UniSea at an unspecified future date.

Enlow is currently a vice president for the company, but until last month he managed the hospitality division of Unisea, including the Grand Aleutian Hotel. He says the switch will allow him to get a better feel for the seafood processing operations.

“We have departments now that didn’t even exist the last time I was involved in the production side of things," Enlow says. "The plant has evolved and changed quite a bit so I’m finding plenty of things to do, and there’s no shortage of learning opportunities at this point.”

Enlow started working for Unisea in logistics in 1989, and transitioned to the hotel in 1999. He says the timeline for his next shift within the company isn’t well-defined.

“This is a 2-3 year transition plan. I have school-age children here, and this is my home and I want to be based out of here for as long as possible.”

Enlow sits on the Unalaska City Council, and the Iliuliuk Clinic Board of Directors, and he says he plans to keep both positions. He also sits on the Advisory Panel for the North Pacific Fishery Management Council, but his term expires at the end of this year.

UniSea has only had two presidents since the company was founded in 1974 -- Dick Pace and Terry Shaff. It's owned by the Japanese maritime giant Nippon Suisan Kaisha.
