The rear axle of a truck was broken when a loose manhole cover, clipped by the edge of the truck tire, struck the underside of the vehicle. The truck was launched into the air and came to rest sideways in the traffic lane. No injuries were reported.

Witnesses reported a young driver traveling at speeds between 40-60mph along Bayview and Broadway, through residential areas and areas being prepped for road construction. An officer found the suspect driver traveling 49mph in a 30mph zone, through a crosswalk. Tristin Waldron, 18 yoa, was cited for Reckless Driving.

Clinic employee asked that an officer check on a patient she was too busy to see. An officer walked to the patient’s home, at which time the patient asked for a ride to the clinic. The officer, having no vehicle, declined the request and instead offered to accompany him on foot. The patient refused.

A man from Ohio, who has never been to Alaska, reported that his local DMV office notified him that he has an outstanding warrant from Unalaska. An officer was able to determine that the caller was not the subject of the warrant, and gave him some information to provide to his local DMV office.

A wallet, dropped off in a rush by an unidentified driver who couldn’t stay because she didn’t want to miss the pilot car through the construction zone. The owner was identified and advised of his wallet’s safe recovery.

Officers investigating a report that two men had squared off to fight one another determined that the first fight had erupted after a third man had given money to a fourth man in order to buy drugs. Another fight ensued between the drug-buyer and the drug-seller, in a taxi, when the drug-seller accepted the money and then said he didn’t deal drugs. A door panel inside the taxi struck came loose and struck the drug-seller in the face, causing minor injury to the man and minor damage to the vehicle. Officers advised the drug-buyer that problems such as these often occurred when attempting these illegal transactions.

Officers responded to a bunkhouse room after an anonymous caller reported considerable shouting emanating from that location. Officers found a young woman arguing with her intoxicated father, but no indication that any violence had occurred. The two were advised to keep their voices down.

Caller asked that officers document vandalism done to the cabin at his fish camp, as well as the theft of four crab pots and a clay pigeon thrower. The victim had no suspects and expressed frustration about the general lack of respect shown for private property.

Caller reported having third-hand information indicating that servers at a local liquor establishment had given the caller’s neighbor’s so much to drink that they had passed out. An officer advised the establishment of the complaint.

Caller reported she was in possession of a two-year old who she had found shoeless, wandering about and knocking on doors. An officer returned the child to his home, where his older brother, who had been sleeping, said the toddler must have opened the door and let himself out. The toddler’s mother said safety latches were due to be installed this day.
