2nd Annual Aleutian 5k Color Run
Wednesday, September 24 2014
The Iliuliuk Family and Health Services Clinic, Inc. (IFHS) held its 2nd Annual Aleutian 5k Color Run this past Sunday, September 21st. This was the first color run established in the Aleutian Chain last year and the clinic and community are thrilled to continue to host this event annually. Over 175 community members participated in the run/walk fundraiser to remind folks about Breast Cancer Detection and Leading an Overall Healthy Life Style.
Carlo Mapantay, a supervising nurse at IFHS, was the Color Run Chair this year and did a fantastic job with getting the crowd enthused. He was assisted by Sharon Treannie, Juvy Magalong, Felica Tungul in getting the race set up, getting student volunteers to help throw the powder, and register folks. The day was cloudy with 50 degree weather which was perfect for a 5K. Many folks stayed after the run/walk to partake in some refreshments while youngsters played on the playground still letting off steam.
Eileen Conlon-Scott, executive director, plans to have 14 color stations next year with local musicians playing along the route and is hoping to get a few non-profits together to cook out hamburger and hot dogs at the end of the race for a fundraising event for their groups - a true community tailgating party. Conlon-Scott announced Felicia Tungul as the 5k Chair next year.
