Aleutian 5K Powder Run: A Colorful Success
Tuesday, September 22 2015
Unalaskans basked in sunshine and color during the 3rd Annual Aleutian 5K Powder Run. Seventeen color stations powdered over 90 runners and walkers plus dogs. The colorful event was sponsored by the Iliuliuk Family and Health Services Clinic, Inc. (IFHS) to raise awareness and support Breast Cancer Detection. Executive Director Eileen Conlon Scott gave credit to Edna Del Rosario and Cielo Hoover for organizing the event and thank all the high school and junior high volunteers in the color stations.
In addition to the run, the clinic also had a visit from the Breast Cancer Detection Center of Alaska Mobile Mammogram. It is recommended that women age 40 and over have yearly mammograms and clinical breast exams. Those age 20 to 30 are suggested to have the clinical breasts exams every 3 years and those younger have annual self-exams for unexpected growth and lumps.
