Aleutian Arts Council's 33rd Annual Arts and Crafts Fair
Monday, December 09 2013
The Arts and Crafts Fair is an annual event sponsored by the Aleutian Arts Council to promote local artisans in and around Unalaska. The fair is typically held on the first Saturday after Thanksgiving, and this year's event took place on Saturday, November 30th. Only handmade, original art or craft items are allowed to be sold, with an exemption for non-profit organizations. Over the years, vendors have sold creations such as paintings, sculptures, prints, jewelry, photography, quilting, knitting, literature, and even baked goods. This year there were 22 booths of artisans selling their wares.
Arts Council member Babbi Goodwin said, "This year we had a wide variety of items like Jeff Dickrell's handmade driftwood stools, Sharon Svarny-Livingston's chocolate delicacies, Carolyn Reed's newest prints, and Rosie Pound's origami crane earrings. It's an afternoon where our community can get together to have fun, enjoy a hot dog from the school's Art Club, and get a start on holiday shopping."
