Unalaska Pride hosted Blueberry Bash on Sunday, September 28, 2014. There were 78 entries vying for the Grand Prize, a set of pottery bowls. The entry with the most points awarded by the volunteer judges won the blueberry themed nesting bowls from Wheelhouse Pottery in Fairbanks, Alaska. About 125 people attended and sampled desserts, pies, and more. Students from the elementary school painted blueberry art that served as a perfect blueberry backdrop around the room. Blueberry Bash recipe books were on sale, and baked goods were auctioned off to raise money for future prizes and other future endeavors.

Entries in eight different categories were judged for for presentation, originality, flavor and overall impression.  Organizers were excited to see more entries this year in the non-edible & blueberry art areas.  There was even a ‘Live art” entry with Addilen Selle dressed as “Miss Blue-tiful”. She  was decked out in a beautiful blue gown, sash, a garnish of blueberry vine in her hair, and her Xtra-Tuff boots. The miscellaneous category received the most entries, some of which were:  Blueberry Lime Salsa, Blueberry BBQ Sauce, Blueberry Smoked Salmon Dip, and Banana Blueberry Eggrolls. 

Prize ribbons designed with the Blueberry Bash and Unalaska Pride’s logo were given to the 1^st, 2nd, and 3^rd place winners for each category, and 1^st place winners also received a nice prize. Ali Bonomo was the Grand Prize Winner with her Blueberry Cheesecake Rollup.  Ali’s winning entry was a delicious blueberry cream cheese filling with a light outer crust baked to a golden perfection.

Unalaska Pride is establishing itself as a positive community entity by hosting the popular Blueberry Bash, and Holiday Decoration Contest.
