Ten bikers and seven runners competed in this year’s Bobby Johnson Summer Bay Classic, now in its 20th year. The route for this annual half marathon race begins at the Community Center parking lot on East Broadway, follows Overland Drive up and over the pass to Summer Bay Road, and finally to the finish line just past 4th Street.

Though 20 tires left the starting line, only 14 crossed the finish line. Liam Andersen got off his bike 20 yards before line and carried it across with a dramatic flare. Two bikes fell to breakdowns on the trail: Beatriz Dietrick had a flat tire and ran the last 5 miles and Jeff Dickrell's bike broke at the top of Summer Bay Pass forcing him to forfeit the race.

Biker Scott Bingen was first to cross the finish line but he came in shy of the record set by Forrest Bowers 2007. In the Women's Bike Division, Mandy Andersen took the gold medal but didn't beat another 2007 record set by Monica Henning. It was a close race for first in the Men's Running Division.

Nicholas Cron, who took second, said that Paulo Nacionales had been at least a minute ahead of him during the run. Nacionales took a wrong turn onto King Street but emerged in front of Nick on 4th street and won by only 4 seconds. No running records were broken this year. Hallidie Wilt and Ben Bolock hold on to their records.
