City Council-B: Dennis Robinson

Wednesday, September 24 2014

I was born in Unalaska, I live with my wife Lynda, piano teacher and composer and our three children, Ashley, Liam and Tristan. I also have four grown daughters, Chelsea, Vanessa, Mariah and Kyesa.  I have served on the Unalaska City Council from 1986-1992 and 2008-present. My passion for this community, its citizens, its potential, its power and its beauty are unwavering. My interests in the community are as diverse as the community itself, ranging from city’s long and rich history, local industry, diverse cultures, and the arts. I am committed to do the best I can for all that live here. I have many priorities; I will give you my top three:

1) Addressing the housing shortage. This is an age old problem that will take the
cooperation and willingness of the entire community to overcome. It has to start
with a commitment from the entire City Council to solve the problem. Where there
is a will, there is a way. Let’s build a community not a work camp. I have some
ideas that will help solve this.

2) Working towards the completion of the Waste Water Treatment Plant, Water
Treatment Facility and the Landfill expansion. We are having a problem meeting
an important milestone on the Waste water Treatment Plant but it is well on its
way. Currently it is only a fraction of the cost had the EPA and Department of
Justice had their way with us.

3) Working to see that the City of Unalaska is prepared to meet the demands that
both oil exploration and Shipping through the Arctic will put on us. I have
supported both Resolutions 2014-69 and 2014-70 addressing our priorities for both
the State and Federal governments. Roughly $57 million, authorization for
dredging Unalaska Bay Entrance and an initiative for Outer Continental Shelf
revenue sharing from the feds and $67 million from the State. Housing is also a
priority that will either make or break our ability to capitalize on these new
developments. Without housing we will not have the workers to handle the work
required to support the new opportunities.
