City Council-G: John Waldron
Monday, September 21 2015
I first came to Unalaska in 1987 as a private contractor and worked until 1994. In September of 2005 I decided to return to Unalaska as a police officer. The decision was easy for me and my wife Robin as we knew about the Unalaska City School District reputation. I was excited for my three children to attend, which two have graduated.
The reason I am running for City Council is I have many years of experience as an elected official. While I lived in Yakutat I served both on the Borough Assembly and the School Board. During my terms, I was appointed as the Liaison to the State Capitol for both entities. From my involvement as the liaison, and being involved in both the Alaska Municipal League and Association of Alaska School Boards it lead to an appointment from then Governor Knowles. It also lead to an appointment on the National Coalition for Forest Service Logging to find alternative funding from the loss of timber sales in the western US and Alaska. During the appointment working as a Capital Liaison I also worked with lobbyist Paul Fuhs. Working with Paul was instrumental in bringing tens of millions of dollars each year to Southeast and Central Alaska for many years.
