Council Seat C: Katherine Labert
Monday, September 16 2013
My name is Katherine Labert I am a native of Unalaska, I have lived here for 35 years. I own a small business ‘CapeSarichef Salon’, I am married to Mark Labert and together Mark and I have 5 children. Three of our children attend Unalaska City Schools. I have served on The Unalaska City Council from 2001 to 2011. I previously have served on The Fish and Game Advisory Board, Qawalangin Tribal Council, and numerous local committees (Indian Education Committee, Unangan Elementary Committee, HS Health Curriculum Committee, Economic Development Committee, UCSD Budget Committee, just to name a few.)
After a few people asked for me to run, I seriously thought about it, my husband and I discussed it, with his support and many others I am running against Councilman Rowland as a ‘write-in’ because I have concerns as an elected official. I plan to take my job seriously, to listen to the community, and to be present at the Council meetings.
My main concerns are maintaining an affordable cost of living, continued improved paving, council attendance, council/mayor/administration transparency & housing availability.
I have had 2 years off, I feel refreshed and ready to professionally make decisions on behalf of the community.
I grew up here, graduated from UHS, Mark and I have a home, family, and friends. We love Unalaska and want to be positive role models for our community.
