Council Seat F: Alejandro “Bong” Tungul
Monday, September 16 2013
My name is Alejandro “Bong” Tungul and I am 53 years old. I have lived in Unalaska for over 30 years and have made this my home for myself and my children who were all raised here from birth. I am married to Rita Tungul and have four children, Jason, Felicia, Claudine and Alleri.
When I was eighteen years old living in San Francisco, California I received a call from my Aunt Luz Robinson. She asked me if I would like to come up to Alaska for a year to work for her and her husband Vern Robinson at their grocery store so I could make some money. Little did I know that I would end up loving Unalaska and making this my home.
For the past thirty four years of living in Unalaska, I have been very active and involved in our community. I volunteered for the Fire Fighter Association for five years, served on the grant committee for a year and I am one of the founders of the Filipino American Bayanihan Association. I am also very involved in my childrens school functions and extra curricular activities ranging from fundraising to coaching different sports held at our local community center. That is only some of the things that I have done in the community.
The reason I am running for office is for the love I have of this place I call my home and the people I have met and made my friends and family through the years I have been here. I was welcomed with open arms and accepted no matter who I was or where I came from by the people in this community. I have always been strongly involved in this community and want to be a part of it in some ways especially on some of the changes and improvement that is going to our community. I want to see the rest of our main road to be paved and more activities for our children and do something for the elders in this community. I want to see more guard rails along side the roads by the water. These are some of the things I want to accomplish.
On October 1st, please don’t forget to go to City Hall and cast your vote.
