On November 11th, the Unalaska Raider volleyball team embarked on a road trip from Anchorage to Soldotna, about a three hour long drive, bound for the 2014 Cook Inlet Academy Invite. The seven teams, including Unalaska, who came to play at the Invite were Wasilla Lake, Holy Rosary, Ninilchik, Birchwood, Lumen Christi and CIA; all of which the Unalaska Raiders previously competed against earlier in the season. During the two days of competition, the Unalaska Raiders went undefeated. The UCSD Lady Raiders beat the Ninilchik Wolverine in the championship and earned the first place trophy.

Coach Herman said, “This weekend, there were several people who came up to me and said they enjoyed watching Unalaska play volleyball because they work together and never give up. An official at the tournament told me my girls were very disciplined, to me, a very high compliment. The girls are playing well and turning heads, and we are very excited to compete at Regionals in a couple weeks.”

Unalaska’s hard work and dedication not only lead them to victory, but three spots on the all-tournament team. The Unalaska players that were voted on the all-tournament team was Kiecel Tungul, Reanna Marquez, and Louisa Seman, who also was awarded the M.V.P. of the tournament!

On a side note, conference matches are comprised of the best three of five games. The wins and losses this weekend were not counted as conference matches because they were the best two of three. Unalaska played in five, best two of three games not adding to the conference standing but gaining game experience. Unalaska’s conference standings are 9-0, a perfect season!

The Unalaska Raiders’ next upcoming competition will be at Regions hosted by Birchwood High. Let’s wish our Raiders good luck!
