Larry Dirks, Jr., the longest serving Department of Public Safety employee, retired this month after 24 years of dedicated service.

On Monday, September 28, 2015, family and friends joined the DPS Staff for a potluck BBQ lunch at the Station, which was well attended and quite delicious.

At the celebration, DPS Director Jamie Sunderland presented Larry with an appreciation plaque, memorializing his caliber as employee, friend, and citizen. It was apparent that Larry was quite touched, and that Jamie will truly miss having him on the job.

Jamie also presented Larry with a gift of a very nice Ruger 22-250 rifle with an inscribed case as well as some boxes of shells and a Cabela’s gift card, all purchased with donations from Larry’s colleagues. The magnitude of their generosity is a testament to the high regard in which Larry is held, and will be of great service to Larry as he enjoys his retirement and his traditional foods.  If you see Larry around town, be sure to congratulate him on his retirement.
