There was a special energy in the Unalaska Aquatics Center Friday evening for the second and last Community Swim Meet of the season.  Unalaska City School Jr. high and high school swim teams raced for best personal times.  Some community members joined in the fun and provided some competition for the school swimmers.

     All school swimmers competed in at least three out of eight individual events.  Eight grader, Adam Nguyen, and freshman, Kiara Villamor, had record nights.  Nguyen broke the school record in both the boys 500 Yard Freestyle and 100 Yard Backstroke events with times of 5:38.15 (previous record:  5:45.51) and 1:03.29 (previous record:  1:04.16) respectively.  Kiara Villamor also broke the school record for the girls 100 Yard Backstroke event with a time of 1:12.38 (previous record:  1:12.97).  Other highlights from the evening include Amiel Fernandez, Johnny Khongsuk, Jimmy Gilman, Adam Nguyen, Liam Robinson, and Nicholas Upton getting their best personal times in all events swam. 

     Twenty swimmers make up Unalaska Swimming for the 2015 season – seven high school and 13 Jr. high which also include 6^th graders.  Teams will compete in the two remaining home competitions on September 19^th, in the annual Unalaska Triathlon, and October 02^nd, when Unalaska host Valdez for the last home swim meet this season.  High school teams will travel this week to the Kenai Peninsula for the Homer Invitational Swimming and Diving Meet where they will face eight other swim programs in the Alaska Schools Activities Association Region III Northern Lights Swimming and Diving conference.  Unalaska swim teams are coached by D. Tyrell McGirt and Erin Reinders.
