Boys Basketball Tip-Off
The Unalaska Raiders girls and boys basketball teams competed in a home meet the weekend of January 10th and 11th. The Raiders played against teams from Bethel and lost both nights. The scores on Friday for the girls team were 25-52 Bethel and boys 40-57 Bethel, and on Saturday the girls scored 26-45 Bethel and boys 44-75 Bethel. "Both teams played well and improved over the weekend" said girls coach Kevin Ley. "The Raiders played against tough Bethel teams." In between the varsity basketball games on Friday, the Alaska National Guard held a Veteran's Recognition & Enlistment Ceremony to honor local veterans.

The Raiders were scheduled to play again on January 17th and 18th with the boys varsity team traveling to Bristol Bay in a conference match up while the JV boys travel to 1A King Cove; meanwhile the girls teams were to continue their home stand playing against the Bristol Bay Angels in a conference match up with the JV girls playing King Cove at home. Unfortunately, the winter weather prevented the arrival of flights over the weekend and so these games were called off. Both boys and girls teams will be traveling to Cordova on January 23rd-25th for the Cordova Tip-Off. The schedule for the upcoming games is as follows:

For Raiders basketball season, KUCB will be bringing as many games as possible to the airwaves this year. Sponsorship is always welcome to help defray the costs of broadcasting. It costs $100 per game and gives you an opportunity to give a shout-out to the team as well as get your business information out to the public. For those not affiliated with a business, anyone can get together to split the cost and send a message of support to the Raiders. It is a great way to support UCSD basketball and your local non-profit radio station. Email Jane Bye at jane@kucb.org or call Pipa Escalante at 581-1888 if you are interested or would like more information.
