Raiders Swim Season Ends

The 2015 ASAA Region lll Northern Lights Conference Swimming and Diving Championships was held in Valdez on October 29-30, 2015. Over 200 athletes from Colony, Homer, Kenai Central, Kodiak, Palmer, Seward, Soldotna, Unalaska, Valdez, and Wasilla high schools participated in the meet.

Unalaska swimmers competed in nine out of 24 events.  The girls medley relay team (Amber Le, Delanney McConnell, Marjamae Pili, and Kiara Villamor) had their best time of the season at 2:16.85, coming close to breaking the school record of 2:16.13.  Five out of six Unalaska swimmers qualified for day two consolation finals.  Jonathan Le and Amiel Fernandez were able to get their personal best times of the season in back-to-back days of swimming - J. Le, Boys 100 Yard Freestyle 57.08 Day 1, 57.04 Day 2 and Fernandez Boys 200 Yard Freestyle 2:09.97 Day 1, 2:08.94 Day 2. Additionally, Amber Le was able to capture her best time of the season on day two of swimming in the Girls 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:23.76.

Teams from Soldotna, Colony, and Kodiak finished 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for the girls and teams from Kodiak, Soldotna, and Colony finished 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for the boys. Marina Cummiskey and Talon Lindquist from Kodiak were named Female and Male Swimmers of the Year and Lucas Peterson from Soldotna was named Coach of the Year for the region.

This concludes the season for the Unalaska swim team. The State Swimming and Diving Championships will be held at Bartlett High School in Anchorage November 5-7.
