Soup-Off Fundraiser a Big Success
Monday, April 14 2014
On April 5, 2014, community members gathered at the high small gym for the annual Soup-Off. The purpose of the Soup-Off is to raise funds for Unalaskans Against Sexual Assault & Family Violence (USAFV). 30 soups were entered, compared to 23 last year. And the winners are...
SOUPS & CHOWDERS: Shirley Marquardt, for her “TFP’s Favorite Tortilla Soup”
VEGETARIAN: Evie Dickerson, for her “Spring-In-A-Bowl Soup”
CHILI: Carter Whalen, for his “Pilot House Chili”
EXOTIC: Trudie Rose, for her “Chilled Blueberry Soup”
HEART HEALTHY: Linda Lekanoff, for her “Sausage Meatball Rice Soup”
BEST PRESENTATION: Trudie Rose, for her “Chilled Blueberry Soup”
There were 30 Silent Auction Items, 50 Live Auction Items, and more than 60 door prizes. More than 100 individuals, artists, businesses, and craftspeople donated items and services for our event.
USAFV sold about 75 new and continuing memberships, and well over 100 people attended the event. This year’s turn-out was better than last year, possibly due to better advertising and the weather!
The Soup-Off raised over $16,000 for our program, compared to about $13,000 last year.
These unencumbered funds are not designated for any particular use at this time, but could be used to pay for nighttime shelter advocate salaries, for food for our food pantry, to pay utilities, fuel, or phone costs; or for other program expenses.
The Board and Staff of USAFV would like to thank everyone who made our event such a great success! The support from the community is humbling and much-appreciated.

Just curious - Where does money go? on Friday, April 18 2014:
Over 2/3 of USAFV's $320,000 - $430,000 Contributions (mostly Federal) expenses per year are listed as "other". What does that mean?

Been wondering for years - what does USAFV do that a church/pastor, clinic therapist, friend, or professional school teachers or counselors employed here cannot do? Highest paid non-profit here with no statistics ever released. Do they help 10 people per year or 100 people per year??
