The Museum of the Aleutians is happy to keep you updated on local scientific research with the Summer Lecture Series. On Friday, July 25th, four of the scientists that are currently working on the remote “Islands of the Four Mountains” shared their expertise in volcanoes, tsunamis, earthquakes, ecology, biology, and prehistoric settlements. This group is led by archaeologist Dixie West of University of Kansas.
On Tuesday, July 29th, Doug Veltre from the University of Alaska talked about his past research on Adak, Unalaska, and the Pribilof Islands. He is interested in the archaeology of gardening during the Russian American period and has recently written a historical summary of Unangan culture, which you can check out on the APIA website: www.apiai.org/our-culture-
