With the end of November comes the end of “Movember.” This year, twelve members of the Unalaska City School staff and supporters created a local team to participate in the world-wide fundraiser for men’s health issues. The men’s goal during the month was to keep their chins and cheeks clean while growing out their mustaches as a mark of solidarity. Community members could donate to support the team and see their progress at the official Movember website. The team stated their motivation for action saying, “We hope to help the men of our Island to recognize the importance and value of knowledge. Help us to spread the word about men's cancers and other health issues.”

The Movember campaign specifically targets prevention, education, research, and awareness of all types of men’s issues. This includes prostate and testicular cancer awareness, support, and aftercare. Mental health issues such as depression, domestic violence, and other forms of abuse are also a priority.

After a month of mustache-growing, the Unalaska team ended up raising a total of $1,426. Sixth grade teacher Josh Good was the team captain and thanked community members and local organizations, such as the Ballyhoo Lions Club, for giving generous donations and showing outstanding support. The Movember organization as a whole raised over $105 million to put towards men’s health initiatives.

Well, Confused.. He does in fact have a mustache. He heard about it all month through similar comments as yours. After almost 30 days of growing it was there, just so blonde that it took some serious observation to notice his hairy upper lip. But Confused, we are grateful for your concern. Thanks for lookin' out.
