Unalaska, AK – Legal action against all of the individuals arrested in April and May for drug related charges is still proceeding. Many of the cases were heard before a grand jury and though some of the charges changed slightly, none of the cases were dropped. Director of Public Safety Jamie Sunderland said that the evidence collected by the undercover officer is still valid in a court of law and all of the defendants are still being prosecuted for various charges, including selling drugs. He said an article in the Dutch Harbor Fishermen led some people to believe otherwise.
Unalaska, AK – Former Unalaska City Schools special education teacher Pamela Drawver was recently charged with falsifying her teaching certificate, a class C felony. According to court documents, a police investigation found that Drawver altered part of her application for a special education endorsement from the state of Alaska. Without that endorsement she cannot legally teach special education in the state.
KUCB News – Forty-three year old Pamela Drawver has been acquitted of all charges relating to furnishing alcohol to a minor. A class A misdemeanor charge was filed against Drawver last December. According to court records, the jury returned a verdict of not guilty after a trial in Unalaska on May 20th.
Unalaska, AK – TeleAlaska is expanding their infrastructure in order to provide cell phone service. They've set up a tower on Haystack and plan on putting one on Ballyhoo and another in the Valley. Chief Operations Officer Dave Goggins said the new towers will help coverage gaps.
"We're looking at putting a repeater site out in the Valley just to get better coverage. It can be a little sketchy out there right now, so we know we need to put another site out there. We're working to secure some property with a couple of different landowners out there."
Unalaska, AK – Various agencies around the community are trying to develop an action plan to deal with local drug problems highlighted by the recent bust, especially the issues with the community's young people. The interagency cooperative, which includes representatives from all of the local non-profits, behavioral health agencies, schools, and others, began a discussion about different ways to approach the issue.

Unalaska, AK – City council will meet Tuesday night to set the mil rate, discuss union contracts, adopt the Capital Major and Maintenance Plan, and finalize the plans for the Carl E. Moses Boat Harbor. They'll also host a public hearing on the motor vehicle tax increase that provides money for getting junked cars off of the island and vote on the first reading of the fiscal year 2011 budget.
