Begich Tour Skips Aleutians

Tuesday, August 07 2012
U.S. Senator Mark Begich announced Tuesday that he and his staff are heading out on a community tour of Alaska this month to discuss economic growth and job creation.
Although the Senator will only visit a handful of places, he’s sending staff to almost 60 communities, including remote villages like Kiana, Angoon, and St. Michael. But notably absent from the Senator’s tour are any Aleutian communities.
In an email, Senator Begich’s press secretary Julie Hasquet said cost, distance, and scheduling were factors. She added that “we know if we send staff or the Senator out that way, there is a more than decent chance they’ll have to deal with weather delays.”
Hasquet noted that a Begich staffer visited Unalaska and Akutan in 2010 and that "we certainly know the region is important and will continue to aim to get there."

OMGosh, even our so called local politicians, who say they will represent Alaskans won’t even come to Unalaska because of fear of weather delays!!!! Really, are you kidding me?” How would Begich feel if the voters of Unalaska decided not to vote for Begich due to fear of weather delays? Lame yes, but true. If you are going to represent Alaskans, it is ALL Alaskans, even those who live in Unalaska.
Dealing with the weather and flight delays, and high prices are an ongoing problem here, come and see what it is like Begich…Come as see what we have to deal with, and what you choose not to…Argh No vote for you in the upcoming election…..
