City council considers school bond
Tuesday, July 08 2008
Unalaska – Unalaska's City Council will open discussions on a potential school bond election at their meeting tonight. It's the first reading of an ordinance that suggests putting a $4.5 million general obligation bond on the October ballot. The money would be used to fix the Jr./Sr. High School's roof, expand the kitchen facilities, replace flooring, and complete energy and safety upgrades. If the bond passes, the state would reimburse the city for 70% of the bond and its interest. That means the city would pay $2.3 million over 20 years. The city currently has $5.7 million in bond debt from other school projects. The Council meets tonight at 7 pm at City Hall.
