City Council to appoint interim member tonight

Unalaska, AK – The Unalaska City Council meets this evening for its regular session.
The biggest item on the agenda is the council's decision on who will take over council member Joanna Aldridge's seat for the remainder of her term. Aldridge announced at the council's last meeting that she would be stepping down in order to spend time with her parents in Washington.
Three people have submitted letters of interest to the council: Chris Bobbitt, Roger Rowland and David Gregory. The council will pick one of the three to serve the rest of Aldridge's term, which ends in October.
The council will also consider whether to authorize the city to proceed with plans to build a fourth cell for Unalaska's landfill, and decide how it wants to proceed on the Makushin geothermal project, which city officials are now considering building without the involvement of a commercial developer.
The council also will hear a proposal from council member Rocky Caldero for an alternate plan for bathroom facilities at the small boat harbor. That proposal involves UniSea opening its nearby bathroom and laundry facilities to harbor users instead of the city building their own facilities.
The council is expecting to hear from opponents and supporters of the proposed Pacific Stevedoring dock project during the meeting's public comment period, although that issue is not on the agenda tonight.
The meeting takes place at the council's City Hall chambers at 7 p.m.
