Unalaska, AK – This weekend, the Unalaska City School wrestling team traveled to Nikiski for the State wrestling tournament. The Raiders came in 22nd out of 42 teams, earning 17 points total.

Eight members of the team qualified for state, and co-captain Zac Call placed highest among them. He won four out of six matches in the 145-pound weight class.

Coach Steve Gregory says that in all, it was a good showing from the Raiders.

"In my 10 years of going to the state tournament, the level of competition this year was by far the toughest it's ever been," he says.

He also adds that next year should be an even better one for the team. None of the eight team members had ever been to the state tournament before, and only two are graduating. Gregory says that team will continue to do some off-season training in the meantime.

Bethel came in first with 228 points at the tournament, while Nikiski came in second.
