Unalaska, AK – Yesterday afternoon, a Coast Guard helicopter medevaced a fisherman from the vessel Cape Reliant. Tom Webster, 26, reportedly suffered a head injury at around 1:25pm, while the vessel was 55 miles northeast of Dutch Harbor.

Crew members from the nearby Coast Guard cutter Alex Haley promptly attended to the vessel, providing medical assistance until the Jayhawk rescue helicopter was able to medevac Webster at 4:20.

The Alex Haley was 10 miles away from the Cape Reliant when it heard the request for help.

"The Coast Guard cutter Alex Haley overheard their attempt, and they began communication with the vessel. After they communicated with the vessel, they then relayed the information to the 17th Coast Guard District Command Center in Juneau, says Petty Officer Walter Shinn.

Webster was transported from the Cape Reliant to Unalaska, and then to Anchorage, where he received additional treatment.
