Coast Guard Medevacs Unalaska MSD Staffer

Monday, March 17 2014

A member of the Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment in Unalaska was medevacked to Anchorage Monday in critical condition.

The Coast Guard helicopter from the cutter Alex Haley took the MSD staffer to Cold Bay early Monday morning. There, the man was transferred to a commercial medevac and flown to Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage. Emergency room staff confirmed he arrived around 11 a.m. and is currently being treated.

Coast Guard petty officer Grant DeVuyst says medical providers in Unalaska recommended the medevac, but he couldn’t provide more details on the man’s condition. He wouldn’t say whether the man had been injured in the line of duty.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
