Council preview: Assessing the city budget

Tuesday, October 12 2010
Unalaska, AK – Tonight, City Council will meet to discuss a number of ordinances related to the budget.
The meeting will open with the certification of the municipal election results - where all incumbent candidates won reelection - along with a proclamation recognizing Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Council will then move on to hear a presentation about the Museum of the Aleutians, pegged to two resolutions that they will be considering tonight. One resolution on the consent agenda would appoint Donna Detweiler to the Museum's Board of Directors, and another resolution that is being introduced as new business would approve matching funds for a Museum grant.
The Council will then get an update on capital projects, and discuss the status of unreserved funds - like the rainy day fund - as part of the budget.
In addition to the museum board appointment, there is one resolution on the consent agenda that would permit city manager Chris Hladick to dispose of the city's surplus personal property.
There isn't any unfinished business but there are a few items of new business. The council will discuss transferring $1.2 million from the sales tax special revenue fund to the general fund for the completion of the Carl E. Moses boat harbor. They'll discuss a resolution addressing the status of the unreserved funds.
Additionally, council will also discuss travel to the Alaska Municipal League meeting in November.
Finally, Council will move into executive session to discuss the preferential use agreement with Horizon Lines.
Coucil will be meeting in the City Hall Chambers at 7pm. The meeting is expected to last three hours and fifteen minutes.
