Council Preview: Harbor Rates, Budget Amendments, Council Travel
Tuesday, November 08 2011
Amending the Carl E. Moses Small Boat Harbor rate schedule is at the top of this evening's City Council agenda.
Discussion of the schedule last meeting ended without agreement on several key issues. In a work session tonight, Councilors will address whether to raise the moorage rate by 15 percent, how to deal with multiple vessels under the same ownership, and how to administer use of the drive-down float.
The multiple vessel question will probably generate the most discussion. Several vessel owners have requested discounted rates for mooring multiple boats at the Harbor. Councilors considered several options last meeting that weighed revenue against filling the Harbor, but didn’t reach an agreement.
Although the Harbor is scheduled to open on November 15, Council will not vote on a new fee schedule this meeting.
In new business Council will consider an ordinance to amend the 2012 budget. The two-part amendment authorizes funding for new pilings at the Unalaska Marine Center and converts Public Safety’s First Sergeant position into Deputy Chief of Police. Neither amendment requires Council to appropriate additional funding.
Also in new business, Council will consider a resolution authorizing City funds to connect a residence to the electrical grid and a request by Mayor Marquardt for funds to travel to a conference in Seattle in December.
A resolution to appoint Ali Bonomo to the Museum of the Aleutians Board of Directors is on the Consent Agenda.
The meeting starts at 7pm and is expected to last 50 minutes.
