Council Sets Eyes on Infrastructure Projects
Tuesday, September 27 2011
City Council will convene tonight for a monster meeting on road regulations and the development of a new wastewater treatment plant.
The meeting will both begin and end in executive session. Council will meet at 6pm to discuss pending environmental litigation behind closed doors. They will receive an hour-long update on the Department of Justice and the Environmental Protection Agency’s lawsuit over wastewater discharge. The second executive session is for City Manager Chris Hladick’s annual performance evaluation.
During the public portion of the meeting, city council will discuss a variety of capital projects. There will be a public hearing and a vote on an ordinance that would fund the $1 million fender system repair project at the city dock and also adjust the budgets for the powerhouse and Makushin geothermal projects downward by over $1.5 million. That ordinance also bumps up the funding for the 8-plex housing project by $180,000.
Discussion on new road regulations will occur during the new business portion of the meeting. Council will also debate the best course of action on adopting a new wastewater treatment plant facility plan. That project was discussed during a work session earlier this month, and five options were presented. The plan that got the most favorable response at that meeting was a $15 million chemically enhanced primary treatment project.
Council will review two resolutions during the new business portion of the meeting. One would accept Lake View General Contracting’s bid for the Lear Road Duplex Window Replacement Project at a cost of $63,000. The other resolution would adopt a roadmap for the development of the new wastewater treatment plant.
he meeting will begin at 6pm at city hall council chambers, with the public portion scheduled to open an hour later. The meeting is expected to last three hours and 45 minutes in total.
