Council to address preferential use agreement with Horizon Lines

Tuesday, October 26 2010

Unalaska, AK – Tonight, City Council has scheduled a brief meeting to discuss some big issues.

This meeting opens the municipal term, and it will begin with the swearing in of Shirley Marquardt as mayor and Roger Rowland and David Gregory as council members. All three were reelected to office earlier this month.

The meeting will then shift to the discussion of tideland leasing and discussion of the preferential use agreement with Horizon Lines.

There are three items of new business. First, council will introduce a resolution that would identify the city's funding priorities for the next fiscal year. Projects identified as major priorities include the wastewater Treatment Plant, which is estimated to cost $20 million, the Water
Treatment Plant construction at an estimated cost of $9 million, expansion of the landfill Expansion Cells, which should cost approximately $8 million, and the Ballyhoo Road Project which is estimated to cost $6.5 million.

Next, the council will bring up the issue of the preferential use agreement once again. A resolution being introduced would allow city manager Chris Hladick to enter into an agreement with Horizon Lines.

Lastly, the council will introduce a resolution that would authorize Mayor Shirley Marquardt to renew the employment agreement with city manager Hladick.

The meeting will take place in the City Hall Council Chambers are 7pm. It is expected to last one hour.
