Council to Talk Travel, Budget

Tuesday, February 14 2012
Tonight, the Unalaska City Council will convene for a brief meeting to adopt an updated travel policy and confirm their objectives for next year’s budget.
The meeting will open with discussion of a donation request from the Aleutian Pribilof Islands Association. APIA is in the process of raising money for their upcoming Regional Tribal Wellness & Governance Conference, and they have asked the City of Unalaska to contribute $75,000 in order to help them meet their $225,000 goal. The conference is scheduled to take place in Unalaska this September. The last time it was held was 2003. Council will determine if it would like to make a donation to the conference, and in what amount, at the end of the meeting.
During the work session, council will also receive an update on administrative policies concerning purchasing card procedures.
City council is set to reappoint a slew of residents to various boards when they tackle the consent agenda. The reappointments include Chris Bobbitt and Caroline Williams to the Unalaska Planning Commission and Platting Board; M. Lynn Crane, Irena Adams, and Mandy Anderson to the Unalaska Public Library Committee; and Kelly Stiles and Tracy Miller to the Parks, Culture, and Recreation Advisory Committee.
Also on the consent agenda is a resolution to adopt a revised version of the council travel policy. This version would broaden the type of travel permitted in an effort to streamline the process of authorizing trips for city business.
During the new business portion of the meeting, council will consider a resolution to establish their goals for the Fiscal Year 2013 budget.
The meeting will convene at 6pm. It is expected to last one hour.
