A 30-year tideland lease with Bering Shai Marine is up for consideration at tonight’s city council meeting.

Bill Shaishnikoff wants 2.7 acres of city-owned tideland at the back of Captains Bay, to build a ramp and mooring space. Shaishnikoff currently owns the land just above the city’s plot.

According to a draft lease, the rent would be about $140,000 over the next 30 years. After signing, Bering Shai Marine would have two years to make improvements to the tideland, before the city has the right to revoke the lease.

A budget package that includes $151,000 in funding for a new software suite is also up for a final vote. The finance department wants to buy new digital recordkeeping software, along with an online bill pay system, from Tyler Technologies of Dallas.

Council will consider a lengthy consent agenda, with several resolutions. One is to set up the canvass committee for next month’s municipal election. Marilou Batista has volunteered to serve as a Tagalog interpreter for voters. City councilor Zoya Johnson is seeking appointment as an election judge, to help out the city clerks when they review ballots later in the week.

Two board appointments are also on the consent agenda. Heather Ley has been nominated to serve on the Parks, Culture, and Recreation Advisory Committee, and Eileen Conlon Scott is in line to serve on the Museum of the Aleutians board of directors.

Ley is a teacher and former PCR employee. Scott, who runs the Iliuliuk Family and Health Services Clinic, has been nominated to fill the city representative seat on the museum’s board.

And city employees Lori Gregory, Brian Rankin, and Robert Warren will all receive awards to celebrate their years of service to Unalaska.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
