Crab Pot Deli opens on Unalaska side of town

Unalaska, AK – People who live or work on the Unalaska side of town once again have more than one option for eating out.
The Crab Pot Deli, owned by Mary and Emil Berikoff, opened for business today on the corner of Broadway and 4th Street at the former location of Angelo's Trattoria, which has relocated to the AC Store. You can get sandwiches, soups and salads, as well as coffee and other beverages and breakfast items.
One thing you can't get, however, is an order of French fries. Mary Berikoff said that's intentional.
"There's not a lot of deep-fried food," she said. "We're trying to target the high school, and get the kids to come over and eat a little healthier--[to] give them a different choice."
Berikoff said she's also trying to make her deli the most ecofriendly restaurant in town. She's not using Styrofoam to-go boxes, and is minimizing the amount of plastic materials used. All of the seafood served at the deli comes from Alaska, too.
Berikoff said it's been her dream to open a shop like this one for a long time.
"It's just something I always wanted to do," she said. "And since I needed a job, I thought I'd create one."
The Crab Pot Deli was supposed to open last month, but shipping and construction delays got in the way. Now that it is open, however, business is good--the restaurant had a steady stream of customers for lunch today.
If you're looking for ordering suggestions, Mary said her favorite thing on the menu is the crab avocado club sandwich. Emil recommends the salmon burger.
