A man is facing charges after an accident late Friday night sent his truck into the water near Unalaska lake.

No one was injured in the accident, but Deputy Police Chief Mike Holman says the driver is charged with reckless driving and driving without a license.

Holman says that driver, 21-year-old Brendan Muese, was returning home from the store shortly after 11 p.m. Friday when the accident happened. Muese was alone in his vehicle. He had allegedly been drinking, but Holman says he wasn’t legally considered intoxicated.

Muese was allegedly trying to “drift” his vehicle by speeding up around curves. He lost control of the truck and went into the water in the pond across from Unalaska lake, at the intersection of East Broadway and Dutton Road.

Holman says Muese got out of the vehicle safely. He says there was water up to its floorboards. Muese returned later with another vehicle he owns to pull the truck out of the pond. 

Two police cars and fire staff, including Chief Abner Hoage, responded to the scene Friday night.

Muese’s arraignment date hasn’t been set.
