Edgmon leads Moses as counting resumes

Dillingham, AK – The race for the Democratic nomination in House District 37 isn't over yet, although challenger Bryce Edgmon of Dillingham is gaining ground. There are still more votes to be tallied by the state Division of Elections from tiny precincts that couldn't post the results of the new touch screen voting machines.
The distance between Edgmon and incumbent Rep. Carl Moses of Unalaska has grown to 19 votes, in Edgmon's favor. But that's still within the 20-vote difference that triggers a recount, and more votes remain to be counted.
In the count of absentee ballots, Moses collected 77 votes to Edgmon's 82. Moses also got 7 questioned ballots to Edgmon's 20. Edgmon now leads Moses 750 votes to 731.
But still another group of ballots remains to be counted. Six precincts in the district were unable to upload the results of the Diebold touchscreen voting machines and had to send their memory cards to Juneau to be counted. Those ballots are expected to be counted and included on the division's website later Friday night.
Both campaigns had a representative at the Division of Elections office in Nome this week watching the process as election officials reviewed each ballot to make sure that the voters were entitled to vote in the election, that they were residents of the district, and that they were registered in time to vote.
The counts so far have been quite close, with little change expected in the outcome from the results of the six remaining tiny precincts.
The Division of Elections says it will post the final total of all the votes cast in the district Friday night.
