Fake $100 bill shows up at Eagle
Thursday, January 10 2008
Unalaska, AK – The Public Safety Department is suggesting people keep an eye out for counterfeit money after someone passed off a fake $100 bill at the Eagle store on Friday.
The bill turned up in the till when the store's staff was counting money at the end of the night. Sgt. Jennifer Shockley said that Public Safety has no idea where it came from or who spent it at the store, but that it wasn't exactly a master forgery.
"[It] was off-center, printed upside down and printed crookedly on one of the sides," she said. "There were several things that made it strikingly obvious, without looking at it particularly hard, that it was a counterfeit."
Shockley said no one has reported any other cases of counterfeit money circulating in Unalaska recently. Forgery is a felony, and a federal offense.
