Fall sports come to an end

Unalaska, AK – Fall sports are winding down. Volleyball and swimming have completed their seasons, and wrestling has just two more tournaments to go before it wraps up.

The wrestling team attended the ACS tournament last weekend. Alex Magalong placed sixth in the 103-lb weight class, and Unalaska City School principal Glenn Cole says that each teammate gave a good showing.

"All of the wrestlers won at least one match while they were there," says Cole.

The next wrestling competition will be the Great Alaska Regional Tournament in December, which will be followed by the state meet.

Swim team wrapped up its season in late October at the regional meet in Kodiak. J.J. Fernandez placed 10th in one race, and Michael Fernandez placed 12th in another. Asia Vernon beat the school record in the 500m freestyle race with a time of 6:38.96.

"We will be putting up a new record on our bulletin board at the pool," says Cole.

Volleyball finished its season at the regional tournament in Dillingham. They first played Dillingham, and lost three matches, with each match being within two points. Dillingham ultimately won the tournament. The next day, the team beat Hooper Bay but then lost to Kotzebue in the final match.

On November 29, the basketball season will open.
