Fisher pleads guilty to federal drug charges

Unalaska, AK – An Unalaska man pled guilty in an Anchorage federal court on Tuesday to dealing methamphetamine in Unalaska earlier this spring, in what was one of the town's largest drug cases in recent memory.

Harmon Fisher, known locally as Danny Fisher, could face up to 20 years in jail and a $1 million fine for each of five charges relating to meth distribution. The 49-year-old Unalaska resident was arrested in April after an undercover investigation by the Unalaska Department of Public Safety and the federal Drug Enforcement Agency.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn Fuller, who prosecuted the case, said that Fisher sold about 51 grams of meth to an informant in Unalaska during a one-month period in March and April.

"When you look at the size of the community, it's a significant amount," Fuller said. "So it's all relative. Mr. Fisher might not be considered a big drug dealer in Anchorage, but he is considered that in Unalaska."

Fisher was originally charged in Unalaska's District Court with six counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance, but those charges were dropped after the federal charges were filed.

Mary Geddes, Harmon's attorney with the federal Public Defenders Office in Anchorage, declined to comment on the case, and wouldn't say whether she would be seeking leniency for her client on any grounds during his sentencing.

Fuller said that while Fisher didn't make any agreements with his guilty plea, it did get him out of the one drug possession charge he faced.

A jury trial will determine what happens to $13,000 in cash and a jeep belonging to Harmon, both of which were seized in connection with the case. He is scheduled for sentencing on the other charges on August 31.
