Five rescued off grounded seiner

Unalaska, AK – A 58-foot seiner ran aground near King Cove on Sunday. The five-member crew of the F/V Capt'n Andrew was rescued by its appropriately named sister vessel, Just In Case.
According to Coast Guard Petty Officer Jon-Paul Rios, the vessel found itself in trouble yesterday morning.
"They tried contacting the Coast Guard, however the communication was really poor," says Rios. "So, it was actually relayed to us from another vessel, and another vessel - the Good Samaritan crew - actually went and picked them up and took them to safety."
To rescue the five aboard the Capt'n Andrew, the Just In Case sent out a skiff to pick up the crewmembers off the partially submerged vessel. The trawler Golden Dawn was also in the area, and helped out by keeping the Coast Guard informed about the status of the Capt'n Andrew. After the crewmembers were transported from the Capt'n Andrew to the Just In Case, they were then delivered to King Cove. No injuries were reported.
The Capt'n Andrew had approximately 2,000 gallons of diesel fuel aboard. Rios says that the Coast Guard has not yet been able to determine whether a spill has occurred. A salvage vessel is expected to arrive at the scene today.
At the time of the grounding, there was reportedly limited visibility with 10-knot winds. The Coast Guard is currently investigating the cause of the grounding.
