Former teacher charged with felony for falsifying teaching credentials

Unalaska, AK – Former Unalaska City Schools special education teacher Pamela Drawver was recently charged with falsifying her teaching certificate, a class C felony. According to court documents, a police investigation found that Drawver altered part of her application for a special education endorsement from the state of Alaska. Without that endorsement she cannot legally teach special education in the state.

The application included a statement from the University of Phoenix that said she was qualified to teach elementary education and special education. The endorsement was handwritten and had whiteout over one portion that was then re-written. School superintendent John Conwell said he was concerned that she had altered the document and contacted the University's fraud department. Their fraud investigator said that the document submitted with the application was not the document they sent her, it was falsified, and Drawver is not qualified to teach special education. Drawver is charged with one felony and will have a pre-indictment hearing on June 22.

Drawver is not currently employed with Unalaska City Schools. She was dismissed in January after being charged with furnishing alcohol to a minor. Earlier this month she was tried before a jury and found not guilty of that charge. The discrepancy in her licensing application was noticed during that investigation and is being pursued by the District Attorney's office. Conwell said they have hired a new special education teacher for next year.
