Fuel reaches Nikolski

Tuesday, October 31 2006

Unalaska, AK – A fuel shipment reached the village of Nikolski on Sunday, and the community has restored electricity and phone service after a week without either.

Tribal administrator Tanya Kyle said that the eight barrels of fuel that were flown in on Thursday were enough to take care of the village's basic needs until the barge from Delta Western Fuels arrived on Sunday with about 46,000 gallons onboard. That's enough to supply the village for about a year.

Another barge from Dutch Harbor-based Magone Marine Service is still waiting to leave for Nikolski. The barge is carrying a fuel tanker and is on hold pending favorable weather conditions.
