Monday, January 19 2009

Unalaska, AK – Unalaska's basketball teams challenged King Cove this weekend. The girls played and won three home games. On Thursday night they beat King Cove 55 to 38. On Friday they came out on top again winning by 22 points - 51 to 29. On Saturday the coach decided to give some of the younger player court time to help them build their skills. In the last minutes of the game, King Cove made a three pointer and came within one point of winning. With only 6 seconds left on the clock they stole the ball and made a shot with only one second left. They missed their final attempt and the Unalaska Lady Raiders won 39 to 38. Sand Point was scheduled to play but couldn't make it in due to weather.

The boys' team traveled to King Cove, though only half of the team arrived because of the weather. They didn't fare as well as the girls. On Thursday night they lost 56 to 68. On Friday King Cove stayed on top again and won 46 to 40. They finished their winning streak by beating the Raiders 38 to 35 on Saturday.
