Gun assault at the Spit Dock

Unalaska, AK – A man was arrested for a felony assault with a weapon Monday night after an incident aboard the Lady Gudny at the Spit Dock. First Sgt. Matt Betzen said the Department of Public Safety was contacted around 10 pm.
"We received a call from a confused, upset person claiming that someone had fired a gun at them and that they had fled the Lady Gudney. We responded. The individual had gotten away from the boat and was near some pay phones on the Spit Dock," Betzen said.
The officers had to proceed with caution into the situation because of the potential gun involvement and because of the location of the Lady Gudny. It was in an area that was hard to sneak up on.
Harbor officers set up a road block before the Light Cargo Dock to prevent traffic from entering the area. The officers then moved along the Spit Dock at dusk and reached the victim, who had been drinking. The victim claimed that his assailant, Brian Graphing, was holding the captain of the Lady Gudny hostage. Betzen said the officers then secured the boat around 11 pm and ascertained that no hostage situation was occurring nor could they find any fire arms. Officers arrested Graphing for one charge of felony assault three.
"He claims he didn't use a fire arm, that he was only throwing seal bombs at someone, but seal bombs are small explosives and still fit the same category as if you were shooting at somebody," Betzen explained.
However, a witness claimed that the rifle was dropped over the side of the boat. Public safety officers dove under the ship on Tuesday afternoon and found the gun, which they later identified as stolen. Burglary charges against the alleged victim, Joshua Scott, and other charges in the case are forth coming.
The investigation into the incident and related burglary charges is ongoing. Betzen said the alleged assailant, the victim, and all of the other people on the boat were intoxicated at them time of the incident, which makes the investigation more difficult. Seven officers reported to the scene. No one was injured.
