Unalaska, AK – A helicopter crashed on Unalaska Island on Saturday evening, leaving the pilot dead. The two passengers aboard the helicopter were uninjured.

The Coast Guard District 17 Command Center received a call at 6pm that a helicopter with four people on board had crashed approximately 30 miles southwest of Dutch Harbor. It was later determined that there had been only three people on board. The emergency call was made from the cattle ranch on Umnak Island.

"The report came from the ranch house at Fort Glenn, reporting that their R44 helicopter crashed at Chernofski Point," says Lieutenant Lee Coyle.

A Coast Guard response team arrived at 8:27pm. An Unalaska Public Safety EMT confirmed at the scene that the pilot was deceased. The two passengers had departed the area on another ranch helicopter. Alaska state troopers are currently coordinating for the recovery of the body.

The Coast Guard could not release the identity of the pilot at this time.
