High Winds Tip Over Trailer

A nasty storm has already wreaked some havoc in Unalaska.
Rough winds knocked a trailer owned by Alaska Mechanical on its side. The trailer is located by the city landfill, and the extent of the damage is unclear.
The National Weather Service issued a high wind warning for Unalaska on Tuesday morning. They say residents should expected 55-mile per hour southwest winds, with gusts to 80 miles per hour. The travel advisory is scheduled to expire at midnight.
Sgt. Jennifer Shockley says that the Unalaska Department of Public Safety hasn’t received any reports of damage outside of the tipped-over trailer. But she says that people should show extra caution to keep it that way.
"The winds are supposed to be gradually picking up all day, and we’re supposed to have high winds tonight and at least partway through tomorrow," says Shockley. "So, I would expect that if we’re going to have any significant wind-related damage, that we would be seeing it in the next 24 to 36 hours."
Shockley recommends that people tie down items that are likely to catch in the wind such as sheets of plywood and sheet metal.
