Judges pick regional winners in bird calendar contest

Unalaska, AK – A panel of local judges has selected the regional winners for this year's Alaska Migratory Bird Calendar Contest, an annual competition held by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Alaska. The region includes Aleutian and Pribilof Island communities adjacent to the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge. The winners are:

LITERATURE

Kindergarten through 2nd grade:

First Place: Geselle Nieves Vieyra, Adak
Second Place: Liorah Dushkin, Adak
Third Place: Sasha Isaac, St. Paul

3rd through 5th grade:

First Pace: Alicia Bennett, Adak
Second place: Kevin Vieyra, Adak
Third Place: Elijah Johnson, Adak

6th through 8th grade:

First Place: Jessica Giddings, Adak
Second Place: Dacia Mitchell, Adak
Third Place: Justin Mohn, Adak

POSTER

Kindergarten through 2nd grade:

First Place: Carmen Philemonof, St. George
Second Place: Liorah Dushkin, Adak
Third Place: August Bennett, Adak

3rd through 5th grade:

First Place: Cade Terrada, Unalaska

A reception for all contestants will be held at the Museum of the Aleutians tonight from 6 to 8 p.m.
