A British adventurer who's kayaking through the Aleutian Islands has knocked out a challenging leg of the journey -- in half the time she'd expected.

Sarah Outen is paddling through the Aleutians as part of a human-powered trip around the world. She and her kayaking partner, Justine Curgenven, arrived in Nikolski on Monday.

The team had planned for a month-long journey when they first set out from Atka on May 16. The stretch in between the two villages is unpopulated, with long passages on open water.

Outen sounded exhausted as she described part of the journey in a broadcast from her satellite phone.

"The headwinds picked up, and we were basically boxed with headwinds all the way in, and the tide was pulling us in every direction but a useful one," Outen said. "And so 15 hours -- isn't that ridiculous? -- 15 hours after setting off from our little beach, as the sun was rising, we landed on an even tinier beach on Umnak Island."

That's the island where Nikolski is located. According to Outen's Twitter account, the team will take time to rest, restock, and "explore" before returning to the water.

Unalaska will be their next destination.
