Local organizations participating in Pick.Click.Give.

Unalaska, AK – Three local organizations are participating in this year's "Pick. Click. Give." program through the Permanent Fund Dividend. The program allows people to donate to non-profits around the state when they file electronically for their PFDs. Locally, Unalaskans against Sexual Assault and Family Violence, or USAFV, the Museum of the Aleutians, and Unalaska Community Broadcasting are all participating in the program.

USAFV board member Dan Wilcox said the donations will be used to help USAFV maintain the local food bank and support community members in need. "It's a fairly unique program in that, as all of us know, this is money that we don't necessarily work for and sometimes that's a good opportunity for us to be a little bit more generous. As we look at the money that's coming toward us, this is a great opportunity to say, I'm going to enjoy the benefits of it, but I'd also like some one else to as well.'"

Museum of the Aleutians board member Kristine King said the donations for the Museum are a necessary supplement to keep the cultural institution fully operational. "We're the cultural repository for the entire Aleutians, holding artifacts, providing educational programs not just for children but for families and visitors to the island, helping to host people properly trying to show off and showcase who we are."

UCB board member Chris Bobbitt said that UCB plays an important role in documenting the community's history and providing people with valuable information. Donations through "Pick. Click. Give." supplement grant monies and allow the organization more flexibility.

"Donations from community members are very important to us because that's more flexible money. The federal and state money and the local money that we get granted is generally specifically tasked," he explained.

UCB and USAFV both participated in the program last year. Statewide in 2009, more than 5,000 people donated $545,000 to organizations around the state. Participation only requires you to file for you PFD online before March 31, the PFD application deadline. As one of the last steps in the application process you are given the opportunity to designate portions of your PFD for specific non-profits. Chose the "Pick. Click. Give." program then search for non-profits. You can give any where from $25 up to your entire PFD. For more information go to www.pickclickgive.org.
