Marquardt, Rowland win elections

Unalaska, AK – Shortly after 8 o'clock, preliminary results for the municipal election were read off to a small group of city employees and candidate liaisons in the Council Chamber. It was an election without any major surprises: all incumbents kept their seats.
In the mayor's race, incumbent Shirley Marquardt has won with 385 votes, or 69% percent of the vote. Councilmember Dick Peck received 172 votes, or 31%.
In the race for City Council Seat C, incumbent Roger Rowland won with 283 votes, or 51%. Skip Southworth came in second place with 167 votes. Jessica Culp received 103 votes.
There was one uncontested City Council race and two uncontested school board races.
Dave Gregory will serve another term on City Council having received 468 votes.
Tonya Miller and Tammy Pound received 488 votes and 481 votes for school board respectively.
Over 50 absentee and questioned ballots remained to be counted. However, because all winning candidates easily surpassed the 40% threshold, no run-off election should take place.
