A man was beaten to death last night outside an industrial building along Gilmann Road.

Details are scarce, but a man reportedly suffered fatal injuries after being assaulted by multiple attackers near the Pacific Stevedoring dispatch office and the Bering Fisheries galley. Police received a phone call that a fight was occurring at about 11:30pm. Officers and emergency medical services responded immediately, but the victim was unconscious at that point and could not be revived.

According to Public Safety Director Jamie Sunderland, it appears that the victim did know the attacker, but the motivations for the crime are not clear yet.

“It sounds like alcohol was a factor, but again, we are still doing a lot of the initial interviews,” says Sunderland. “Trying to iron something like this out, as you would imagine, can be fairly complex.”

The victim has been identified, and the Department of Public Safety is working to contact the family before releasing his name. The department also expects to release the names of suspects in the next day as the investigation continues.
